Our Main Event will be John Morrison taking on CM Punk.
Bragging Rights Qualifying Match
Mark Henry vs. Chris Masters
I think Chris Masters really has a shot here… Henry’s knee is taped up from the
injury he got at last week’s Raw.
They stand across from one another for a few seconds before locking up. Masters
tries to push Henry away but he doesn’t budge. Masters poses anyway. They circle
before locking up and Henry pushes Masters down. Henry whips him into the ropes
and shoulder blocks him down. Henry repeats this with success. Henry goes for it
a third time and Masters quickly rolls out of the ring. Masters gets in at the
referee’s count of six and kicks Henry in the midsection. Masters punches him a
few times and goes for a whip but Henry counters into a short-arm clothesline
for a one count.
Henry clamps down a nerve hold and holds it on for a bit. Masters tries to get
to the ropes but Henry drags him back and keeps it on. Masters eventually gets
to the ropes. Masters is on the apron and shoulders Henry in the midsection.
Masters goes for a sunset flip so Henry counters by quickly sitting on his
chest. BANZAI! Henry stands on his chest for a few seconds after that. Masters
rolls out of the ring as soon as he gets off. Henry goes to the outside and goes
to throw Masters into the ring post but Masters slides off and pushes him into
it instead. Masters rolls into the ring as we go to commercial.
-Commercial Break-
We come back from the break to see Masters locked in a bear hug. Masters begins
punching out of it so Henry slams him in the corner. During the commercial
Masters dove off the apron into Henry’s grip, who slammed him into the apron.
Henry charges right into a dropkick to his injured knee. Masters comes off the
second rope with a club to the back. Masters chop blocks the back of the knee
for a two count. Masters attempts the Masterlock but can’t get his arms around.
Masters kicks the knee and drops a few elbows on it. Masters locks on a heel
lock for a few seconds. Masters then lets go and really assaults the knee.
Masters lays the leg on the bottom rope and comes down hard on it. Masters goes
for a Figure Four and Henry kicks him away.
Masters charges into a forearm and a pair of clotheslines. Henry head-butts him
down. Masters gets up and goes for the World’s Strongest Slam but his knee
buckles. Masters quickly begins clubbing him and goes into the ropes but Henry
counters him with a surprise World’s Strongest Slam for the win. Mark Henry will
join DX, Big Show, Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston, and Jack Swagger on Team Raw.
Winner by Pinfall: Mark Henry
Match Rating: * ¾
Another Ask the Divas segment airs. They’re asked who they want in their corner
for a mixed tag team match and what music they listen to at the gym.
Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson are seen walking backstage. One of them will
compete next.
-Commercial Break-
We’re welcomed back to the show by Matt Striker and Josh Mathews. This is the
first time I’ve had the opportunity to hear the new ring announcer. I’ve got to
say… not impressed.
Vladimir Kozlov vs. Tommy Dreamer
The bell rings and they circle the ring. Dreamer gets a quick waist lock and
Kozlov just as quickly hip tosses him off. Kozlov quickly taunts him before
circling the ring. They lock up and Kozlov powers Dreamer to the corner. Dreamer
pushes him and ducks when Kozlov charges. Dreamer hits some punches but has a
whip to the corner reversed on him. Kozlov charges into a back elbow. Dreamer
then charges into a shoulder block. Kozlov hits a big right hand before whipping
him into the ropes. Kozlov lowers his head and eats a kick. Dreamer goes back
into the ropes and hits a cross-body for a one count. Kozlov angrily charges but
Dreamer pulls the top rope down and Kozlov flies outside by Ezekiel Jackson.
Dreamer hits a baseball slide that hits them both. Dreamer jumps off the apron
but Kozlov sidesteps him and he hits the announcer’s table. Kozlov throws him
back into the ring and the referee checks on Dreamer, who seems to have injured
his arm. Kozlov works on the arm for a bit before under-hooking the arms and
head-butting him in the chest. Dreamer appears to have torn his bursar sack in
his elbow. His elbow is nasty. Kozlov locks on a key lock but Dreamer fights
through the pain and gets up, locking Kozlov in an inside cradle for a one
count. Kozlov then quickly takes him back down with an arm breaker. Kozlov locks
on an arm bar. Dreamer fights up but Kozlov takes him down by the arm and locks
on an overhead wrist lock. Dreamer fights up and Kozlov slams him down. Kozlov
drops an elbow but misses.
Kozlov whips Dreamer into the corner and charges but Dreamer moves. Kozlov
speared the ring post. Dreamer hits a high knee lift and comes off the second
rope with a clothesline. Dreamer dropkicks him in the face and covers for a two
count. Dreamer goes for the ten punches in the corner but Kozlov powers him off.
Dreamer is on the apron and he shoulders Kozlov in the midsection before hitting
a hot shot. The referee is distracted as Ezekiel Jackson snaps his arm off the
top rope. This allows Kozlov to easily hit the Iron Curtain for the win.
Winner by Pinfall: Vladimir Kozlov
Match Rating: * ¼
Ezekiel Jackson comes in and raises Kozlov’s arm. Jackson then picks Dreamer up
and hits his Samba Slam.
Still to come tonight is John Morrison taking on CM Punk.
-Commercial Break-
A Superstars video airs for Jack Swagger. It wasn’t bad.
Todd Grisham is at it alone at the moment. They play a video hyping John Cena
vs. Randy Orton in an Iron Man Match for the WWE Title.
After the video the United States Champion Miz joins Todd Grisham. John Morrison
makes his way to the ring for his match, which is next.
-Commercial Break-
John Morrison vs. CM Punk
Charles Robinson, my favorite referee, calls for the bell and the match begins.
They tease locking up a few times and the anticipation is there. They lock up
and Morrison gets a side headlock. Punk tries to get out but Morrison gets him
in a hammerlock before hitting a headlock takeover. Punk powers up and whips him
off. Morrison shoulder blocks him down before going into the ropes, over and
under Punk, and stomps Punk when he goes for a monkey flip. Morrison hits
another headlock takeover and gets a one count. Punk powers up and backs him to
the ropes to break the hold. Morrison blocks a punch and hits another headlock
takeover, getting another one count. Punk powers up and backs Morrison into the
corner.
Punk begins hitting some offense, including a spin kick to the midsection. Punk
goes into the ropes and runs right into a one man flapjack. Morrison then hits a
STANDING Shooting Star Press for a near fall. Morrison hits another headlock
takeover. Punk again powers up and pulls on the hair. Punk counters out with a
back suplex for a two count. Punk drives a few elbows into his neck and locks on
a headlock of his own. Morrison powers up, backs Punk to the corner, and tosses
Punk off. Punk charges into a boot and Morrison charges into a powerslam for a
one count. Punk throws Morrison out of the ring and we’ll take a commercial
break here.
-Commercial Break-
We come back from the break to see Morrison locked in a body scissors. During
the commercial Punk front suplexed Morrison onto the steel steps! Ouch! Morrison
elbows Punk in the face and breaks the hold. Morrison goes to drop an elbow but
Punk lifts the knees. Punk covers for a near fall. Punk covers again for a two
count. Punk knees and stomps Morrison a few times. Punk sends Morrison into the
ropes and hits a one man flapjack of his own. Morrison rolls to the apron and
Punk stomps him off to the outside. Morrison gets to the apron at the six count.
Punk goes to suplex him in but Morrison lands on his feet and rolls him up for a
near fall. Punk quickly knees him in the midsection and gets a near fall.
Punk locks on a nice abdominal stretch. I’d like to note that Miz and Grisham
have been great on commentary. Morrison fights out of the move and hip tosses
Punk off. Miz promotes the return of the Dirt Sheet on Smackdown. Punk charges
Morrison in the corner but he moves and Punk hits the ring post. They’re both
down now.
Morrison blocks a punch and starts wailing on Punk. Morrison hits a pair of
clotheslines before sending him into the ropes and hitting a back calf kick for
a near fall. Punk hits a punch to the midsection and goes for a roundhouse but
Morrison ducks it and hits a pele kick for a near fall! Nice exchange! Morrison
goes for a suplex but Punk counters into an inverted suplex for a near fall!
This is a great match. Punk controls Morrison in the corner and whips him to the
opposite one. Punk hits a high knee and goes for a bulldog but Morrison tosses
him off. Morrison hits his running knee to the face for a near fall. Morrison
slams Punk down and goes for Starship Pain. Punk crotches him on the top rope
just in time. Punk goes for a back suplex but Morrison knocks him down. All of a
sudden the Miz comes in the ring and stomps CM Punk, causing John Morrison to be
disqualified!
Winner by Disqualification: CM Punk
Match Rating: ** ¾
John Morrison is not happy about this result. Miz backs up the ramp with his
United States Title. Morrison then drops CM Punk with the Flying Chuck and
celebrates with the crowd.
