The WWE Superstars video plays and
we’re welcomed to the show by Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler. We have
the pleasure of listening to Lillian Garcia for the last time on WWE Television
as she announces Chris Masters and Primo.
Chris Masters vs. Primo
The match begins and Primo quickly gets a waist lock on. Masters simply powers
him off and stomps him. Masters clubs him down and then lays him to waste with a
right hand. Masters sends him into the ropes but Primo ducks a clothesline,
slides between his legs, and dropkicks him in the knee. Primo dropkicks him in
the face and gets a one count. Primo hits a kick but has a whip to the corner
reversed on him. Masters runs into a back elbow and Primo comes off the second
rope with a diving hurricanrana. Primo goes into the ropes and gets DESTROYED
with a clothesline.

fall. Masters powers Primo into the corner and hits some back elbows. Masters
chokes him on the ropes and hits a nice leg drop for another near fall. Masters
sends him into the ropes and hits a backbreaker, keeping him on his knee
afterwards for a submission. Primo knees out of it and goes into the ropes only
to get powerslammed down. This gets Masters a two count. Masters isn’t satisfied
with it so he covers again for the same results. Masters powers him back into
the corner and shoulders him in the midsection before backing up and hitting a
running knee. Primo collapses out of the corner. Masters goes for a leg drop but
Primo moves.
Primo hits some strikes but has a whip into the corner reversed on him and it’s
a hard whip from Masters. Masters signals for the Masterlock and waits for it.
Masters doesn’t get it as Primo kicks him away and hits a knee lift. Primo goes
into the ropes and hits a clothesline but Masters doesn’t go down. Primo does it
again for the same results. Primo goes back into the ropes, ducks a clothesline,
and hits a spinning back elbow, finally knocking Masters down. Primo goes to the
top rope and hits a missile dropkick for a near fall. Primo has a whip reversed
on him. Primo goes for a springboard cross-body but Masters catches him and
powers him to the Masterlock. Primo quickly slides out of it and cradles Masters
for the upset win!
Winner by Pinfall: Primo
Match Rating: * ¾
Primo celebrates his big win, even mugging with the crowd, as Chris Masters
looks amazed that he lost in the ring.
Backstage we see William Regal walking with Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov.
He’ll take on Goldust next. Our Main Event tonight will be Matt Hardy taking on
Kane.
-Commercial Break-
Did you know that WWE Superstars was, once again, WGN America’s most watched
telecast of the entire week? What does that say for WGN America? To be honest,
before WWE Superstars I’d never even heard of the channel.
Matt Striker and Josh Mathews welcome us back to the show. This is ECW’s
contribution to the show.
Goldust vs. William Regal
The bell rings but nothing happens as Regal is taking his time taking his robe
off. You’d think after the debacle that happened at Summerslam that he’d have it
off before the bell rings. They finally circle the ring and lock up. Goldust
gets Regal in the corner and they’re broken up by the referee. They lock up and
Regal wrenches the arm with a wrist lock. Goldust quickly twists out and flips
Regal to his back before dropping a leg on his arm. Regal angrily backs to the
corner to regroup. Regal gets a quick waist lock and gets a single leg takedown.
Regal grabs the left arm and twists again. Goldust twists out and wrenches the
arm. Goldust gets a side headlock on but quickly gets whipped off. Goldust hits
a shoulder block and goes back into the ropes but Regal sidesteps him and sends
him out of the ring. Goldust lands on his feet and gets in the ring only to be
kneed while coming through the ropes.
Regal takes control with a wrist lock and he wrenches the arm, taking Goldust
down. Regal works on the left arm with an arm bar. Regal gets him to his feet
and Goldust begins fighting back with some punches but Regal quickly takes back
control with an arm wrench. Regal drops a knee on the arm and locks on another
arm bar. Goldust fights up but Regal takes him back down. Regal then walks into
an uppercut that takes him down. Regal and Goldust punch it out now with Goldust
coming out on top. Goldust hits a pair of clotheslines and an atomic drop.
Goldust hits a bulldog and goes to splash him in the corner but Regal moves.
Goldust then surprises him with a powerslam for a near fall. Goldust gets thrown
into the ropes. Regal attempts to distract the referee as Ezekiel Jackson
punches Goldust but the referee catches him and disqualifies William Regal.
Winner by Disqualification: Goldust
Match Rating: * ½
William Regal picks Goldust up for Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson to
shoulder block down. Regal now locks on his Regal Stretch. Goldust is in pain
until Christian, Tommy Dreamer, and Yoshi Tatsu runs down to help out. They
clear the ring. It should be noted that Christian made a beeline for William
Regal in that exchange.
Still to come tonight is Matt Hardy versus Kane.

A great Superstars video plays for Smackdown’s newest Superstar Batista.
Jim Ross and Todd Grisham welcome us back to the show. This will be Smackdown’s
contribution to the show. Tomorrow night Batista will take on Big Show.
Michelle McCool & Layla vs. Maria & Melina
Melina and Maria don’t seem like they’re on the same page stemming from last
week’s Smackdown when Maria accused Melina of trying to break her and Dolph
Ziggler up. Melina will start the match out against Michelle McCool, who Melina
defeated in a non-title match on Smackdown last week. They lock up and McCool
quickly gets a waist lock on. Melina gets out but gets a knee to the midsection.
McCool slams her down and covers for a one count. McCool hits her a few times
and sends her into the ropes only to get a head-scissors face buster. Melina
hits a dropkick and McCool quickly tags in Layla.
Melina avoids a clothesline with her matrix move (Trish’s old counter) and
blocks some kicks. Melina hits a kick and tags in Maria, who comes in and hits a
blockbuster to a seated Layla, giving Maria a two count. Maria has a whip
reversed on her but Layla lowers her head and eats a kick. McCool pulls on
Maria’s hair, distracting her so Layla gets a kick in and a neckbreaker for a
near fall. Layla gets a front face lock and tags in McCool. McCool punishes
Maria with some strikes and covers for a two count. McCool bounces Maria’s head
off the canvas and kicks her a few times before choking her on the bottom rope.
McCool gets a neck vice on and chokes her again on the ropes.
McCool tags Layla back in. Layla hits a snapmare and locks on a chin lock.
Melina gets the crowd into it and Maria fights out. Layla, however, kicks her
down and locks the chin lock back on. Maria now fights up and hits a jawbreaker.
Layla no sells it as she gets right back up and prevents Maria from making a
tag. Layla knocks Melina off the apron. This distracts the referee enough for
McCool to big boot Maria right in the face, knocking her out cold. Layla gets
the easy cover for the win.
Winners by Pinfall: Michelle McCool & Layla
Match Rating: * ½
Michelle McCool and Layla celebrate up the ramp. Melina checks on Maria but
Maria wants nothing to do with her.
A commercial for the Summerslam DVD plays. I’m only mentioning this because I
found it funny that Aerosmith’s song plays during the commercial yet they’re not
on the actual DVD.

Another senseless “Ask the Divas” segment plays. Jillian’s advice on losing
weight is to starve yourself. She then says she was kidding and says to stay
really active. Gee, thanks for that stellar advice! Absolutely senseless.
The Smackdown Rebound plays, highlighting the fallout from Breaking Point. Teddy
Long was abducted by the Undertaker in a really silly but great segment. This
Smackdown also saw the return of Batista.
Matt Hardy’s music hits. He’ll take on Kane next.
-Commercial Break-
Raw’s guest host this Monday will be the Reverend Al Sharpton. Anything for
ratings, right? Our Superstars can’t get anyone watching so we’ll just keep
bringing in outside sources to generate talk. What a plan.
Matt Hardy vs. Kane
They lock up and Kane quickly powers Hardy to the corner. Kane goes for a punch
but Hardy ducks it. Kane goes for a lock up but Hardy ducks that and starts
punching away. Kane pushes him down and goes for a kick but Hardy blocks it and
punches. Kane pushes him to the corner and charges but Hardy avoids it. Hardy
gets on the apron and pulls on Kane’s arm as he jumps off. Hardy goes to the top
rope and comes off with a double axe handle to the shoulder. Hardy wrenches
Kane’s arm. Kane whips him off and shoulder blocks him down.
Kane bounces Hardy’s head off the turnbuckle and he punches him. Kane hits a
knee and an elbow before hitting a snapmare and hitting a low dropkick to the
face. Kane body slams Hardy down. Hardy avoids an elbow drop and punches Kane.
Hardy has a whip reversed on him but Kane lowers his head and eats a kick, but
Kane no sells it. Kane charges Hardy but Hardy pulls the top rope down and he
falls to the outside.
-Commercial Break-
We come back from the break to see Kane whip Hardy into the corner and run into
a back elbow. Hardy punches him and comes off the second rope into a Chokeslam
attempt. Hardy lands on his feet, punches, goes into the ropes, and gets killed
by a big boot. Kane drops some knees on the back of his head and gets stomped.
Kane hangs him up on the second rope and chokes him. Kane whips him hard into
the corner and Hardy goes down in pain. Kane drops an elbow and chokes Hardy.
Kane drops another elbow and stomps Hardy some more. Kane steps on his throat
before picking him up and whipping him to the corner. Hardy stumbles out of the
corner into a bear hug submission. The announcers point out that Kane hasn’t
been pinned since returning to Smackdown. I didn’t realize that.
Hardy tries to punch out of the submission but Kane powers him to the corner.
Kane sidewalk slams Hardy and covers for a near fall. JR mentions that he
remembers when Kane beat Stone Cold Steve Austin for the WWE Title. JR is on a
roll tonight. That reign was only for about twenty-four hours, though. Kane
locks Hardy back in the bear hug. Hardy is in it for a bit until he head-butts
out. Hardy hits some punches before wrenching the arm. Kane punches him, sends
him to the ropes, and picks him up for a powerslam but Hardy slides off and chop
blocks the knee. JR mentions that is fifteen yards on a Sunday but it’s legal on
Thursday night. I’m loving the commentary tonight.
Kane is in the corner where Hardy clotheslines him. Hardy attempts to connect
with a bulldog but Kane pushes him off. Kane runs into Hardy’s boot and Hardy
comes off the second rope with a nasty bulldog for a one count. Hardy goes to
the second rope and comes off with an elbow to the back of the neck for another
one count. Hardy attempts the Side Effect but Kane elbows out. Kane goes for a
powerslam but Hardy slides off and hits a DDT for a near fall. Hardy punches
Kane in the corner, who is now covering up. Hardy ducks a clothesline and goes
for the Twist of Fate but Kane powers him up and drops him crotch first on the
top rope. The referee warns him and Kane does it again, getting himself
disqualified.
Winner by Disqualification: Matt Hardy
Match Rating: ** ¼
Kane drops him on the top rope a third time. Kane hits some punches and scares
the referee away. JR mentions Kane is going home with the “loser’s purse”
tonight. I love it! Kane Chokeslams Matt Hardy and smiles as he walks away.
