Raw is War

Albany, New York
March 22, 1999

Mr. McMahon announced that in the main event later on RAW between Austin and Paul Wight, the special referee would be The Rock! From the back, Mankind came out and said Commissioner Michaels figured that the owner would name The Rock the special referee, so Michaels had signed a match between the champion and Mankind. The winner of the match would be the special referee for the Austin-Wight match.

The Corporation was already upset, and that was merely the beginning! Suddenly the glass broke and Stone Cold Steve Austin's music began to play. Cameras picked up Austin outside the arena driving the Coors Light 18-wheeler! He drove it into the arena and out to the ringside area! He promised that at WrestleMania he would march into the Smackdown Hotel, check into room 3:16 and burn the place down! Before his big match on RAW, the Rattlesnake said he wanted to have some beer with the members of the Corporation. He walked over to the truck and grabbed a hose, turned it on, and gave the Mr. McMahon, Shane and The Rock a beer bath!

The tag team titles were on the line as Jeff Jarrett and Owen Hart (with Debra) took on the Brood. The match started out with Edge and Gangrel, but midway through Christian took over for Edge-and the referee didn't even notice. Later, the Public Enemy, still upset over not getting a fair title match last week, came out and attacked the champions, but Jarrett, Owen and the Brood ganged up on the P.E. Then the lights went out and Debra became the victim of a bloodbath!

It was title vs. title and partner vs. partner as Intercontinental Champion the Road Dogg took on Hardcore Champion Badd Ass Billy Gunn. Just after Mr. Ass hit the Road Dogg with the Rocker Dropper, Goldust, Val Venis and Al Snow interrupted! The Outlaws teamed up and cleaned house, but the referee had called for the bell, and both men retained their titles.

Mr. Brisco and Mr. Patterson, who did a little impersonation of the Legion of Doom last week on RAW, were getting coffee for Mr. McMahon. The original L.O.D., Hawk and Animal, who had apparently reunited with Paul Ellering, viciously attacked them. Brisco and Patterson, and a few officials, had to be attended to by medical personnel.

The Blue Meanie came out next and said he didn't think the Federation was big enough for both he and Shamrock… and he called out Shamrock-but it turned out to be Ryan Shamrock. The Meanie, apparently jealous of the attention Ryan has been getting from Goldust in recent weeks, tried to give Ryan a spanking on live television! But big brother came to the rescue to make the save. Meanie had a chair and stopped the "World's Most Dangerous Man" in his tracks, and Goldust attacked Ken from behind. Shamrock recovered and slapped on the ankle lock submission, but the Meanie smacked him from behind with a steel chair, and Goldust, the Meanie and Ryan walked away together.

In a non-title match, Playboy cover girl and Federation Women's Champion Sable met Ivory, accompanied by D'Lo Brown. D'Lo joined Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler for commentary and reported that "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry was well on his way to recovery. Terri Runnels and Jacqueline came out to the ring and got in D'Lo's face. After D'Lo called Terri a "$2 whore", she slapped the former European Champion! While D'Lo attended to PMS outside the ring, Ivory tried to score the win over the arrogant Women's Champion inside. Sable set up Ivory for the Sablebomb, and Ivory tried to fight it off, but the Femme Fatale eventually hit it and got the three count!

Mankind took on The Rock in a match to determine the referee for RAW's huge main event. Mankind went flying into the official, knocking him out, and as the referee lay unconscious, the "Big Show" Paul Wight came down to the ring. Mankind tried to knock him off the ring apron, but that merely upset the "Big Show", who grabbed the Deranged One and chokeslammed him! The referee recovered in time to see the chokeslam, and he disqualified The Rock! Mankind became the referee for the main event!

In what was supposed to be a match between Kane and Goldust, the Big Red Machine made his way out first. Goldust came out second, grabbed a cannon-like device from underneath his robe and shot a ball of fire in Kane's face! Goldust stripped off his attire and it turned out to be Triple H!

The TKE fraternity in Albany threw a special "JR is WAR" party at the fraternity house! Throughout the night, JR, his boy "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, and his new friends checked in with updates. During one update, Hardcore Holly crashed the party and blamed JR for his loss of the Hardcore Championship on RAW. Suddenly a hardcore match broke out at the fraternity house between "Dr. Death" and Hardcore Holly. The two superstars broke through a fish tank and used all sorts of foreign objects to pummel each other before the satellite feed from the house was lost.

Shane McMahon's Greenwich Street Fight challenge turned out to be a setup. After X-Pac made his way out to the parking lot to meet Shane, members of Shane's Greenwich Posse attacked him. A half dozen men ganged up on X-Pac and then ran to their Corvettes, with Shane taunting X-Pac as they drove away.

Mr. McMahon made one last ditch effort to eliminate the Undertaker as he sent the Big Boss Man, Test and Ken Shamrock to take on the Acolytes and the Undertaker. All six superstars went after one another, with the Acolytes pummeling Shamrock and Test with the steel steps, and the Boss Man trying to decapitate the Phenom with his nightstick. The Undertaker and Boss Man ended up battling through the crowd until the lights went out!

Still irate after being showered with beer earlier in the evening, the owner introduced The Rock--who would provide guest commentary during the Austin-Wight match--and then he brought out the man who would face the Rattlesnake, the "Big Show". Outside the ring, Wight grabbed Austin and picked him up overhead with two hands. Special referee Mankind jumped from the ring and hit Wight with a double axhandle from behind! Wight got back in the ring to confront Mankind, Austin recovered and ripped the turnbuckle off of one corner. But Wight pushed Austin into the corner! After Stone Cold brutalized his foe with a steel chair, The Rock tried to get involved, but Austin ran him off with the weapon. The Rattlesnake turned his attention back to a dazed Wight, kicking him in the gut and then dropping him with the Stunner! Austin covered him and got the three count for the win! Wight recovered immediately and went after Mankind. Meanwhile, The Rock entered the ring and gave a physically exhausted Rattlesnake a Rock Bottom!
