Monday Nitro

Chatanooga, Tennessee
November 30, 1998

TNT's Monday Nitro from Chattanooga started off the program by discussing Hollywood Hogan's campaign for the United States presidency, and retirement from active ring action. When NWO Hollywood limousines arrived, commentators pondered what would happen to the black-and-white express, now that their leader has exited the sport (see match results).

Also: Diamond Dallas Page had to nearly force an injured Bret Hart in last night's main event... Or did he?

Match Results

NWO Hollywood Interview
Ending speculation, Eric Bischoff announced that Big Poppa Pump would be the new leader of the black-and-white express. Steiner accepted the position, praised Hollywood Hogan and then announced the group's first order of business: the destruction of Scott Hall. BPP told Hall to find a partner, and prepare to face Horace Hogan and himself later than evening.

Konnan d. Chris Jericho
WCW TV Title Match

The Wolfpac member dominated in opening of the bout, but the Lyin' Heart took control when the match spilled to the arena floor. But K-Dogg kept focused, escaped a Liontamer attempt and dropped Jericho onto the TV belt (Jericho brought the international object into the ring, and attempted to use it first). Post-match, Kevin Nash and Lex Luger came out to celebrate and the producer's played Konnan's music video.

Scott Hall Interview
Without music or friends, Hall came to the ring and said he would accept BPP's challenge solo, since he no longer had any friends. Kevin Nash then appeared in the dressing room entrance, and said -- for one night -- he would reunite The Outsiders.

Gene Okerlund Interview: Ric Flair
The 13-time World Champion expressed his disappointment in Barry Windham and told Bischoff he wanted to settle all their differences with a wrestling match.

Scott and Steve Armstrong d. Kanyon and Raven
Pre-match, Raven continued his self-absorbed attitude and actually fell asleep in the ring. When Kanyon confronted him, the Armstrong Brothers double-teamed the former Mortis. Raven left the ring area, causing Kanyon to brutalize Scott and hit his Flatliner. But instead of covering, Kanyon started yelling towards the dressing room, allowing Steve to steal the roll-up pin.

Gene Okerlund Interview: Bret Hart
Okerlund announced that this was Hart's one-year anniversary and the Canadian Superstar would face the US Champion later in the evening. Hitman told fans that DDP was trying to end his career by paying wrestlers to injure him. While Hart claimed a groin injury prevented him competing that evening, Page entered the ring. Page called out Hart, and told him he was a liar. Hitman said, although he was injured, he would face DDP, if there was a no disqualification match.

Kidman d. Eddy Guerrero
WCW Cruiserweight Title Match

Eddy took first blood in this match-up, by injuring Kidman's leg with the steel steps and then working the Champ's arm. Kidman then struck with a series of solid moves -- including a power bomb -- but Eddy rebounded with a sweet leg scissors counter. Near the end of the bout, the referee was inadvertently knocked out, prompting Juventud Guerrera and Rey Mysterio, Jr. to ringside. But instead of aiding Guerrero, Mysterio missile-dropkicked the LWO leader and set up Kidman for the Shooting Star Press. Post-match, the LWO chased both Mysterio and Kidman to the dressing room, while Eddy tried to get his bearing.

Eric Bischoff and Barry Windham Interview
Before the interview, cameras revealed that Bam Bam Bigelow, accompanied by security, was watching the event from the stands. Bischoff claimed that the world was desperately looking for "another hero." The WCW President called out Dean Malenko. The Iceman -- injured by the NWO last week -- came out with the Horsemen, but told his allies to let him go alone. Bischoff told Malenko that, if he could beat Wyndham, Flair could get his match with Bischoff. Malenko agreed, only to find out that Dusty Rhodes was the special guest referee.

Wrath d. Bobby Blaze
After last week's crushing defeat to Nash, Wrath rebounded with even more anger and intensity, taking about Blaze in under a minute.

Sonny Onoo with The Cat d. Saturn
Ernest Miller challenged anyone in the arena to a match; Saturn excepted. The Cat wormed out of the match, by saying that he would only fight Saturn if the former TV Champ defeated Sonny Onoo. Saturn made quick work of the manager, but Miller pulled out the referee before a count could be registered. While the official was distracted, Glacier ran in, executed a Cryonic Kick, and put Onoo on top of Saturn. Saturn kicked out, but Miller then tossed Onoo a steel chain. The manager missed with a loaded right hook but, before Saturn could deliver his DVD, Onoo stuffed the chain in Saturn's pants. Saturn appeared to have won the match, but the official found the chain hanging from Saturn's tights. The decision was reversed immediately.

Starrcade World Title Contract signing
Goldberg arrived via limousine; Nash and his boys came from backstage. Gene Okerlund and Terry Taylor oversaw the contract signing, which stated that Goldberg would not face any opponents until Starrcade, assuring the bout. Both combatants were professional -- Bam Bam, however, was not. Bigelow jumped the steel rail and tried to grab the World Champ, but was stopped by over a dozen members of security. The Beast from the East was forcibly escorted from the building.

Booker T. d. Mike Enos
Fully recovered from recent knee surgery, Booker T found Enos to be more than formidable... especially when the match went to the outside. The Harlem Heater's conditioning did triumph, however, and Booker T shut down Enos with the 110th Street Slam. Outside, Bam Bam Bigelow called for Goldberg to fight him on the grass.

Lex Luger d. Brian Adams with Vincent
Luger looked vicious against Adams, and seemed to absorb every move thrown by the black-and-white assassin. After the referee suffered an injury, Vincent brought a chair into the ring. The NWO crony met with a Total Package beating before he could use the international object, but Adams used the distraction to pile drive Luger into the chair. Miraculously, Luger kicked out. A frustrated Adams started choking the former World Champion, then instructed Vincent to bring in the chair again. This time, Luger managed to throw the big NWOer into the steel, and rack Adams for the win.

Dean Malenko d. Barry Windham
Special Guest Referee: Dusty Rhodes

Early on, Rhodes' bias seemed apparent. The American Dream aided Windham in his pointed attack on Malenko's injured leg. But just when everyone thought that The Iceman couldn't come on top, Rhodes disqualified Windham for not desisting after a 5 count. A stunned Bischoff ran to the ring, but Rhodes refused to explain. When Windham tried to attack Rhodes, Malenko and the Horsemen beat Windham senseless. Flair then grabbed the microphone and called for Bischoff to fight him right then.

The Outsiders d. Big Poppa Pump and Horace Hogan
Hall spent almost 5 minutes getting pounded by Horace and BBP, before tagging BigSexy. The Wolfpac leader demolished both NWO members, giving Hall an opportunity to hit The Outsider's Edge on Horace. The NWO referee refused to count the pin, and met with a Jackknife Powerbomb. Referee Billy Silverman ran down to make the 3 count. Post-match, Nash refused to celebrate with Hall, leaving his ex-partner alone in the ring.

Outside, Goldberg and Bam Bam brawled throughout the parking lot. Security spent several minutes breaking up the encounter.

Main Event: Bret Hart d. Diamond Dallas Page
After a few minutes of getting beaten by Page, Hart's master plan became clear. Giant ran to the ring and delivered two devastating choke-slams before Hart put Page into the Sharpshooter. DDP was ruled unconscious, and the Hitman was given the belt.
