Monday Nitro
Birmingham, Alabama
May 1, 2000
As David Arquette enjoyed the last five days as WCW Champion, he attempted to give up the title on Nitro, realizing he was an actor, not a wrestler. But Eric Bischoff had different plans. He not only told Arquette that he would be in the Triple Cage Match this Sunday at Slamboree, but by night's end, he would be facing none other than Tank Abbott.
As Hulk Hogan continued his war against the New Blood, he found himself embroiled in a nightlong battle with the biggest of the NB, Mike Awesome. Although Hogan wore down the faction, when it was all over, he not only tasted a shower of the New Blood, but his own as well.
In a clip from earlier in the week from Courteney Cox's movie set, Cox told her husband, David Arquette, that he was not a wrestler and wondered what he got himself into.
In the parking garage, as DDP, Arquette, and Kanyon had a verbal altercation with the New Blood, Hulk Hogan came from nowhere and smashed his car into the New Blood limousine. The Hulkster got out and brawled with Mike Awesome, prompting the rest to scuffle as well.
Norman Smiley and Mystery
Partner d. Crowbar
Norman came to the ring with his mystery partner, who was wearing
a large dog head. Crowbar stuck the mystery man's head between
the ropes, trapping him with nowhere to go. Crowbar and Smiley
continued to fight in and out of the ring. Norman caught Crowbar
between himself and his partner, delivering a double Big Wiggle.
After bringing a trashcan into play, Smiley and his partner
finally took the win in this handicapped match.
Backstage, David Arquette told DDP that he wasn't a wrestler and was willing to give up the belt.
Backstage, Team Package entered the building. Lex Luger was fired up to find Vince Russo and Elizabeth, but Flair told him that they had to keep their cool.
Back on Cox's movie set, Courtney told Kurt Russell that her husband was the new WCW Champion. When Russell laughed and walked away, Arquette went after him with a chair, as Cox reminded him that he wasn't a wrestler.
"The Perfect One" Shawn Stasiak, performed a "perfect" shot on a basketball court, as a lovely lady looked on in delight.
Interview: David Arquette, DDP
and Kanyon
Arquette thanked all the fans for their support over the past
week. He said that even thought it was an incredible five days,
he was relinquishing the title and putting it up for grabs in the
DDP vs. Jeff Jarrett match at Slamboree. Jarrett, Russo (with Liz
on a leash around her wrist), Bischoff and Kim came to the ring.
Eric said that the Triple Cage Match on the PPV would be a
three-way dance for the title, with Arquette added into the mix.
Luger stormed the ring and chased Russo off, who made sure he
brought Liz with him. Bischoff said that as a warm up match,
Arquette would face Tank Abbott later in the show. Tank came to
the ring and soon it was a pier-six brawl, with WCW security
hitting the ring to break it up. Abbott then challenged DDP to a
match for later, which Page quickly accepted.
Backstage, The Total Package searched everywhere for Vince Russo.
In another vignette, Shawn Stasiak continued to score basket after basket, highly impressing his beautiful onlooker.
Backstage, Eric Bischoff told Hugh Morris that he would be in a three-way dance later in the show with Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett.
Table Match
The Wall d. Horace Hogan
Horace charged to the ring and the fight was on. Miss Hancock
strolled to the ringside area, taking notes on the match. As
Horace prepared to put The Wall through a table in the ring,
Billy Kidman ran in. Hogan tossed him over the ropes, but was
stopped and dropped through the same table, giving Wall the
victory. As Kidman and The Wall stomped on Horace, Hulk Hogan
made the save. Mike Awesome jumped Hulk, but The Hulkster fought
all three off until he was finally Awesome Bombed through a
table.
From out in a graveyard, Vampiro challenged Sting to fight him on his turf.
Vince Russo came to the ring with bat in hand and Liz on a leash, challenging The Total Package to a fight later in the show.
Three-Way Dance
Hugh Morrus d. Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett
Jarrett and Steiner stomped on Morris as he slid into the ring.
After a big belly to belly suplex, Steiner did a set of push-ups.
Jarrett snuck in for the pin attempt, which riled Big Poppa.
Soon, it was all three throwing punches at one another. As
Steiner cinched on the Steiner Recliner, but Jarrett smashed the
guitar over his head, allowing Morris to get the pinfall win.
Out in the graveyard, Sting searched around in the dark for Vampiro.
Backstage, as the Misfits in Action congratulated Hugh Morrus, Eric Bischoff showed up and fired them all.
Backstage, Vince Russo badmouthed Liz as he got ready for his fight against The Total Package.
Graveyard Match
No Contest - Vampiro vs. Sting
Out in the graveyard, Vampiro lured Sting on a chase through the
darkness. Vamp attacked from behind with a shovel and beat Sting
down repeatedly. When Sting asked Vampiro who he was, he said he
was a monster and shattered a tombstone over the Stinger's head.
He fell backwards into an open grave, where Vamp dumped a
wheelbarrow of dirt onto him. As Vamp walked away, Sting's hand
appeared out of the grave.
Backstage, Ric Flair pumped up The Total Package, who prepared himself for his battle against the evil boss, Vince Russo.
Tank Abbott d. Diamond Dallas
Page
It was a slugfest from the get go, with Tank throwing his
knockout punch. As he walked from the ring, Page pulled himself
up, and Tank returned for more. The two went to the outside and
into the crowd, as Bischoff and Kim watched from their dressing
room. Kanyon and Arquette were locked into their room, rendering
them helpless. As DDP was climbing the guardrail from the crowd,
a fan hit him in the head with a bottle. As it turned out, it was
no fan, but Jeff Jarrett, who knocked Page cold, giving Tank the
win and a match against Arquette.
Backstage, paramedics strapped DDP onto a stretcher.
Backstage. Hulk Hogan and Mike Awesome brawled through the dressing room.
Interview: Billy Kidman
Kidman said he deserved some thanks from the fans for dropping
Hulk Hogan. He went on to say that Kevin Nash was a washed up
piece of trash. He challenged anyone in the back to come out and
get some New Blood. Backstage, Terry Taylor told Kevin Nash that
Kidman was calling him out. Big Sexy's music played and Kidman
nearly wet himself. Nash hit the ring and threw Billy around like
a rag doll. Konnan and Rey Mysterio, Jr. returned, attacking Nash
in the ring. Big Sexy fought back and chased them out of the
arena, into the back and out to their car. Nash caught up and
beat them down.
No Contest - Vince Russo vs.
The Total Package
Russo told Flair before the match that he would interfere at
Slamboree, wanting to get a piece of the Nature Boy. Liz told
Russo to "kiss her Kentucky ass." As Luger made his way
to the ring, Douglas and Bagwell jumped Flair in the aisle as the
hired security team hired by Russo dropped Package inside the
ring. Bagwell and The Franchise came in and continued the assault
on TTP. Russo handed Liz the bat, telling her to finish off the
Package. She clobbered Vinnie Ru with the bat and ran to the
dressing room. Kronic hit the ring and took out the entire
security team until they were maced by the Birmingham police.
Backstage, Nash destroyed Konnan and Rey's low rider.
Outside, the Birmingham police took Kronic and The Total Package off to jail as Vince Russo watched on.
Interview: Vampiro
Vampiro said he is Sting's anti-hero and the freak he should have
been. The arena went dark and the Stinger dropped from the
ceiling, with a bat in his hand, ready to finish the fight. He
beat on the dark angel with the bat several times before leaving
the ring.
Backstage, as Russo stormed into the women's dressing room, Liz slapped him across the face, telling him that he didn't own her.
David Arquette d. Tank Abbott
As Billy Silverman sent Kanyon to the back, Arquette jumped on
the back of Abbott, looking for any advantage he could get. Tank
threw him to the ground, playing with the actor turned champion.
Backstage, DDP arrived back to the arena, driving the ambulance
all the way. Back in their dressing room, Bischoff sent Jeff
Jarrett to stop Page. It was too late, as Abbott was finished
with a Diamond Cutter, center ring. Dallas put Arquette on top of
Tank, and the WCW Champion remained undefeated.
Backstage, a clip was shown of Big Poppa Pump attacking Jeff Jarrett. The attack was the reason Jarrett didn't make it to the ring to stop DDP moments earlier.
As Shawn Stasiak was preparing to break the shooting record for basketball, Curt Hennig attacked him, leaving him lying on the court.
Mike Awesome d. Hulk Hogan
Awesome and Hogan fought all over, with the New Blood member
getting the advantage. Hogan, who said he wasn't Hogan anymore,
he was Terry Bollea, threw the rulebook out the window, using a
chair and his weight belt as weapons. Hogan delivered a belly to
back suplex on the floor. Awesome gained control, using a steel
chair on the Hulkster. Kidman came out with a chair, but was
stopped by Hogan. Billy came off the top rope to the floor with
the chair over Hulk's head, busting the former champion wide
open. Back inside, Awesome covered Hogan for the three count.
When Hulk got up and saw the blood, he started swinging the
chair, hitting everyone in sight, including the referee. From the
sky, a bloodbath dropped again, covering Hogan in crimson red.
The New Blood members hit the ring and attacked as Nitro went off
the air.
