Monday Nitro
Wilkes-Barre,
Pennsylvania
January 31, 2000
The fans of Wilkes-Barre were in for a treat. And they knew it. The internet was abuzz all week with the news that the Nature Boy Ric Flair was making his return to Monday Nitro. Flair hadn't been seen in a long time, and the fans as well as WCW wanted to know where he stood. He came, he spoke, and in the end, he proved that, without a shadow of a doubt, the Nature Boy Ric Flair is still the dirtiest player in the game.
Backstage, the nWo spoke with Kevin Nash via telephone. Nash told Jarrett that he would be the acting commissioner for the night.
The nWo made their way to the ring with Jeff Jarrett wearing a sport coat, dressing for his new role. Jarrett told the crowd that Nash wouldn't be in the building and that he would be in charge. Steiner got on the mic and trashed the crowd. He officially inducted The Harris Boys into the nWo, giving them the black and silver shirts. Jarrett announced that he would be facing Sid for the WCW Title at SuperBrawl. The Chosen One said the main event later in the night would be himself and The Harris Boys against Sid and two partners he would name later. Jarrett ended the interview by telling all the boys in the back that he would be accepting bribes.
Tony Schiavione, Mike Tenay, and Mark Madden (filling in for an under the weather Bobby Heenan) talked about the upcoming matches on the show.
Outside, the Nature Boy Ric Flair arrived at the arena in a limousine.
Backstage, J Biggs spoke with Stevie Ray and Big T.
Backstage, Terry Funk asked Arn Anderson with concern where Ric Flair was. Arn told Funk he didn't know and walked away.
Lash Leroux d. Evan Karagias with
3 Count
Karagias attempted to sing before the match, but Leroux put a
stop to it. Evan took exception and attacked Lash with a
vengeance. Lash did a dive on Moore and Helms on the outside, but
took the steam out of himself in the process. Back in the ring,
Leroux scored the pinfall out of nowhere, advancing in the
tournament.
Backstage, the nWo turned the caterer away, demanding lobster and such.
Interview: David Flair, Crowbar,
and Daffney Unger
Mean Gene attempted to interview David, but he just laughed
uncontrollably. Gene then turned the mic to Crowbar, who did his
best Gordon Solie impression, before the interview was
interrupted as Big Vito and Johnny the Bull attacked.
WCW World Tag Team Title Match
Bensonhurst Street Fight
The Mamalukes with Disco Inferno d. David Flair and Crowbar with
Daffney Unger
The fight quickly took to the outside as Flair and Crowbar
backdropped Vito into a snow bank. Once into the arena, Disco
Inferno joined the announcers at the table as the two teams
fought in and out of the ring. Miss Hancock from Standards and
Practices came to ringside to take notes. Tables, chairs, road
cones, etc. were introduced into the match, and used frequently.
As Crowbar attempted a dive off the top, Disco pushed his leg off
the ropes. Big Vito put Crowbar on a table in the ring and, after
climbing to the top himself, splashed him through the table,
scoring the three count.
Backstage, Brian Knobs showed up with a handful of money, asking Jarrett to book Fit Finlay in a match against The Total Package.
No Contest - Booker T vs. Big T
Booker T made his way to the ring, ready for a battle. Halfway
down, his music stopped. J Biggs came to the ramp and told Booker
that the music was property of Harlem Heat, who now consisted of
Stevie Ray and Big T. Biggs then said they had some new music for
Booker, proceeding to play a cheesy rock instrumental. As if that
wasn't bad enough, Booker was told that the T in his name and the
flames on his pants were also property of Harlem Heat. As Biggs
continued his tirade, Midnight grabbed him and threw him in to
Booker, who laid him out. The New Harlem Heat came in, dropping
Booker and Midnight to the ground.
Backstage, Norman Smiley was confronted by 3 Count, who attacked Smiley until he ran away, screaming down the hall.
Backstage, Jeff Jarrett told Fit Finlay of Knobs' plan. Jeff said he was booking Knobs against Package, and that Fit would be the referee. In another dressing room, Knobs, watching on a monitor, went nuts, throwing chairs around the room.
Backstage, Norman found The Demon's casket to hide in. As he stepped inside, it started to close, and Norman screamed on.
Billy Kidman with Torrie Wilson d.
The Wall
The Wall charged into the ring after Kidman, but the youngster
stepped aside, sending the big man crashing into the corner. Soon
however, The Wall's power overtook Kidman, and Billy was in
trouble. Kidman threw a dropkick from the top rope and followed
it up with a huracanrana. The Wall stopped the momentum and, as
he went for his patented chokeslam, Vampiro came out and
delivered a leg lariat from the top turnbuckle, as Torrie
distracted the referee. Three seconds later, Billy Kidman was the
winner.
Interview: Ric Flair styled and profiled to the ring as only he could do. He named off every pro and college team in the area, said put them all together, and that still didn't equal Ric Flair. Flair said he was asked to be the commissioner, but turned it down. He stated Terry Funk must have some misconceptions and wanted Funk out to the ring to straighten things out. Funk came out, calling Flair a banana nosed, horse tooth goof. He said Ric was jealous of him and said he should get some control of his son, David. The Nature Boy told Funk he has been from Starrcade to WrestleMania back to Starrcade, becoming the 14-time champion. As the Funker entered the ring, he and Flair immediately came to blows with WCW security quickly breaking up the ruckus.
Backstage, Jeff Jarrett said he was making Funk and Flair Sid's tag team partners later in the show.
Interview: Sid Vicious
As Mean Gene told Sid of his partners for the night, Vicious said
he didn't care who it was ... someone was getting powerbombed
straight to hell.
Backstage, Miss Hancock asked Standards and Practices why they weren't wearing their suits again. S and P told her that WCW just dressed them up to get her over, and were going to try to get their names back.
Backstage, The Total Package and Elizabeth were shown walking down the hall, toward the ring.
Non-Title Match
No Contest - The Total Package with Elizabeth vs. Brian Knobs
Fit Finlay served as the special referee for the match. The
Hardcore Champion went right to work against Package, bringing
him to the floor and sending him, back first into the guardrail.
Back inside, Finlay nailed Knobs as he was coming in, swaying the
advantage in the direction of The Total Package. As Knobs went to
the second rope for a dive, Finlay stood in his way, allowing
Elizabeth to come from behind and lay Brian out with the baseball
bat. Fit left the ring as Package destroyed Knobs' arm in the
steel chair.
Backstage, Norman Smiley was shown coming out of the Demon casket, dressed in KISS makeup.
Backstage, The Demon told police where his gear was hanging when it was stolen.
"Screamin" Norman Smiley
d. Shane Helms
Norman came to the ring, donned in his full Demon garb. Helms
delivered a frogsplash early, but Screamin Demon kicked out.
Shane applied an airplane spin, to which Norman retaliated with a
giant swing. Smiley nailed both Karagias and Moore off the apron
and won the bout with the Norman Conquest. After the match, The
Demon and Wilkes-Barre's finest came out to confront Smiley, who
took off into the crowd, with Demon hot on his heels.
Interview: DDP and Kimberly
As Mean Gene talked with Kim and Dallas, The Mamalukes and Disco
came down the hallway, with Big Vito pinching the rear end of
Kimberly. As she turned around, Disco was standing there and was
slapped for the pinch. DDP attacked Inferno, starting a brawl
throughout the backstage area and out into the crowd.
Diamond Dallas Page with Kimberly
d. Disco Inferno
The fight finally made its way into the ring and Disco took
control with a swinging neckbreaker. He pounded Page around the
ring, kicking him into the corner. When Disco decided it was time
to dance for Kim, DDP decided it was time for some revenge. A
Diamond Cutter later, and Diamond Dallas Page took the win over
Inferno.
Jeff Jarrett and The Harris Boys
d. Sid Vicious, Terry Funk and Ric Flair
This pier six brawl started outside the ring and remained for
some time. Only one problem, Ric Flair didn't come out for the
match, making it a three on two advantage for the nWo. Sid didn't
let that stop him as he pounded on Ron Harris in the corner.
Vicious attempted to powerbomb Jarrett, but one of the Harris
Boys quickly broke it up. The nWo trapped Funk on their side of
the ring, beating on him relentlessly. The Funker fought back
against the evil trio, finally making the tag to big Sid. Flair
made his way to the ringside, only to grab Funk, running him into
the broadcast area. As the referee tried to get Flair and Funk
under control, Jarrett brought in his sweet six string, drilling
it over the head of the WCW Champion, and gaining the pinfall win
for the nWo.
