We start with clips of LAX taking
out Santa Runt last week. The voice-over man said we will hear from Angle and
Joe tonight.
Borash eavesdropped on a screaming match between Jim Cornette and Kurt Angle in
Cornette's office. Angle was closing in on Cornette's lap demanding a re-match.
He demanded Joe one-on-one in the ring tonight. Cornette told him to calm down
and not disrupt the program. Angle calmed down and said he's not going to mess
anything up tonight. He went in for the kiss and whispered, "I will get my
re-match one way or the other." Cornette leaned back in his swivel chair and
said, "I understand."
They cut to Mike Tenay, who said tonight is year-end award time. He said there's
a nightstick on a pole match between Sting, Christian, and Abyss.
1 -- CHRIS SABIN & JAMES STORM vs. PETEY WILLIAMS & X Division champion
CHRISTOPHER DANIELS
Sabin came out first and gave the hard camera the wink-and-the gun. Storm slowly
walked out alone to new entrance music. Petey walked out and Tenay talked about
how much he respects Petey. Daniels came out, then Petey and Sabin went into a
sudden exchange of moves. Petey hit a dropkick, then Daniels and Storm tagged
in. Daniels gave Storm a hip toss, then a leg whip to the face. Sabin came in
and Daniels cleared him. He then slapped an armbar on Storm. Sabin took a tag
and applied a neck vice on Daniels. Sabin went for the Cradle Shock, but Daniels
countered into a back breaker. Petey and Storm took tags, then Petey took out
Storm with a spin kick and bulldog onto Sabin. He hit the Russian Legsweep on
Storm and called for the Destroyer, but Sabin kicked Petey in the head to block
the move. Sabin then grabbed a chair from ringside and he tried to bring it into
the ring, but Mr. 501 Jerry Lynn stole the chair. Daniels then hit a suicide
dive onto both Lynn and Sabin on the outside. Back in the ring, Storm countered
a Destroyer into a chair shot to the head. For some reason, the referee found
himself out of the ring and not watching the in-ring portion of the match to see
what should have been a DQ. Storm then made a cover to win. Afterward, Lynn
ripped off his t-shirt and laid into Sabin and Daniels with right hand blows. He
ran back into the ring and fired up. They instantly cut away.
WINNERS: Sabin & Storm in 5:00. The usual five-minute TNA tag match with plenty
of good energy, but a rushed feeling. It would be nice if TNA had more time to
let post-match activity sink in, rather than having to cut right away to a
commercial or some other segment.
They showed Samoa Joe on crutches trying to get down some stairs.
Ron Killings did a PSA for quitting smoking. He said he's a smoker and he
doesn't want his kids to see him smoking. He said he wants to quit, but there's
no easy way to do it.
[Commercial Break]
Borash was with Abyss and James Mitchell last week. Borash asked Mitchell what
side Abyss is on. Mitchell said he can't get an answer out of Abyss. Abyss
wouldn't budge on his answer. He then tried to grab the NWA Title belt from
Mitchell's shoulder, but Mitchell withheld the belt. Mitchell said he would
reveal Abyss's secret himself if he doesn't take out Sting with the nightstick.
He said Abyss needs to show him that he can trust him. Mitchell said he knows
where all the bodies are buried and he would have no problem revealing them.
Very good promo from Mitchell.
Tenay and West discussed Abyss's decision. He then cut to Leticia, who was Joe
backstage.
They cut to Leticia backstage with Samoa Joe on crutches. Joe said he has no
injury. He said Angle could crank on his leg all he wants, be he will not be
beaten or broken. Joe said his answer is still "No" to a re-match. He said he
has his sights set on the NWA Title and he was undefeated for 18 months, but he
never received his title shot. He said Angle cannot beat him, he has moved on,
and Angle needs to get over it. Nice one-two punch from Mitchell and Joe in the
promo department.
Team 3D was in the ring. Brother Ray did his own version of Coolio's Shadow of
Death song. He then said there are no tag teams left in TNA. Brother Ray called
out LAX. Santa Brother Runt Clause then walked out. He said he's glad they're
here to take out LAX. Runt wanted to know where 3D was when he took a beating
from LAX last week. 3D laughed at him. Ray said they told him to mind his P's
and Q's and he turned around and picked a fight with Abyss. Runt asked Runt if
he's been drinking again. Runt pulled out a bottle of alcohol and spewed alcohol
into Ray's face. He then tried to beat down both men, but Ray ran him over with
a hard clothesline. Ray then told Devon to get a table. Devon wouldn't get a
table, so Ray grabbed a table. LAX then jumped into the ring and jumped Team 3D.
Ray, of course, fought back Tommy Dreamer-style. Security hit the ring and broke
up the fight before they cut a break. Well, two out of three isn't bad. Horribly
edited promo. It looked like they took eight different pieces of video and tried
to splice it all together.
[Commercial Break]
They came back where Brother Runt was using a steel chair on security. There's
something inherently wrong when a small man like Runt can take out five security
guards on his own. Runt then wobbled Hernandez with a chair shot and Ray
clotheslined Hernandez to the floor. All three set up Homicide on a table. Devon
put Runt onto Ray's shoulders and Runt powerbombed Runt through Homicide and the
table. Sigh.
They instantly cut to a PCS pre-tape segment. Nash said they were doing the Bob
Backlund limbo contest with a Lanny Poffo pole. Everyone chanted, "Juice" when
Dutt stepped up to the limbo pole. Nash told Lethal to do it for us, the black
guys. Senshi apparently didn't understand the rules and jumped over the pole.
Nash said it was OK because it's a leaping limbo. It came down to Lethal and
Shelley, so Nash said they would go simultaneously. Lethal beat Shelley, then
Nash tried to kiss Lethal, but he pulled away as Lethal pulled away.
Leticia asked Christian about the big secret while Tyson Tomko stood behind
them. Christian said he sees a smile on Leticia's face after she scored some
serious one-on-one time with him last week. Christian said there's a conspiracy
between Sting and Abyss against him. He said that if Abyss and Sting want to
turn the nightstick match into a handicap match, then he had the problem solved.
Christian called Leticia a trick and walked away.
[Commercial Break]
They cut to a VKM segment at the Knoxville house show. B.G. made fun of Hunter's
mutton chops. That's original. Some woman walked up to Kip and asked if he
remembers her. Kip said his memory is shot and she said her son might be his.
Kip suddenly had somewhere else to be.
Bobby Roode walked to the ring. They cut to Ms. Brooks backstage pushing Eric
Young into the men's room. Lance Hoyt and Ron Killings walked out and Killings
joined Tenay and West on commentary.
2 -- BOBBY ROODE vs. LANCE HOYT (w/Ron Killings)
Killings said his New Year's Resolutions are to quit smoking, go after the NWA
Title, and go to Hollywood to become a movie star. He said he already has an
agent. Tenay was so overjoyed while West was utterly shocked. Killings said Hoyt
has been very supportive of him. Do they have a lengthy relationship other than
being dance partners that we're not aware of? Ms. Brooks walked to the ring as
Lance Hoyt was perched on top for a moonsault. West said something about
quitting smoking after sex. Brooks stroked Hoyt's leg, allowing Roode to run up
the ropes and give Hoyt an overhead suplex for the win. Killings wasn't too
concerned about Hoyt losing, instead, he sung about Hollywood.
WINNER: Roode in 2:00. Too short to mean much. It sounds like Killings and Hoyt
have a one-way street relationship. Killings wasn't concerned about Hoyt losing,
yet Hoyt gave him his blessing to try out Hollywood. Sounds like they need
counseling for their relationship.
They cut to Borash, who found Eric Young backstage. Young was on the floor of
the bathroom in a trance with his shirt ripped and his belt hanging loose on his
pants. He had giant lipstick marks on his cheeks. Young said his New Year's
resolution is to lose control.
Christian Cage and Tomko walked out for the main event. Sting then walked out.
[Commercial Break]
3 -- NWA champion ABYSS (w/James Mitchell) vs. STING vs. CHRISTIAN CAGE (w/Tomko)
-- non-title nightstick on a pole match
Sting is the thinnest he's been in TNA and possibly his career. Christian tried
to run up the pole after the opening bell, but Abyss pulled him down. Sting gave
Christian a Stinger Splash, then Abyss ran into Christian with a corner splash.
Sting dropped Christian and went for the Scorpion Deathlock, but Abyss began
climbing the corner. Sting dropped his finisher and pulled Abyss down for a
little chat. Christian then gave Abyss a drop toehold sending Abyss to the
outside. Sting went for the Scorpion, but Christian kicked him in the face to
break the hold. Christian went up the pole, but Sting met him and superplexed
him. Abyss began climbing the pole, but Tomko got on the apron. Abyss kicked him
aside, then Tomko pulled Abyss to the floor and threw him into the guardrail.
Sting tried climbing the pole, but Tomko ran into the ring and press slammed
Sting into an overhead slam. They piped in crowd boos. Tomko then climbed the
pole and tried to grab the stick, but Sting slingshot Christian into Tomko. The
nightstick fell out of Tomko's hand and Sting retrieved it. He stalked Christian
and used the nightstick to win. OK, that did zero damage.
Tomko jumped Sting from behind and Christian instantly popped up with the
nighstick. Abyss ducked a stick shot and he cleared Christian and Tomko with big
boots. Abyss posed in center ring as Mitchell screamed at Abyss from the
outside. Sting handed the nightstick over to Abyss, who accepted the stick.
Sting walked out of the ring while Mitchell screamed at Abyss. Tenay said
Cornette has to make a decision as to who receives the NWA Title shot.
WINNER: Sting in 5:00. One of those matches where TNA was intentionally vague
with the rules so viewers couldn't set expectations and subsequently be upset
when the match ended with one little blow that had eight times less impact than
Brother Runt's chair shots on security guards and LAX.
[Commercial Break]
They showed clips of the A.J. Styles vs. Rhino feud. They showed back-and-forth
promos from both men. Rhino said he will be the last man standing at Final
Resolution after thinking with his heart last month when Styles faked an injury.
Rhino screamed at the camera that he would be the last man standing at the PPV.
Styles was cocky saying he would make Rhino think about his future for ten
seconds.
They aired the 2006 award winners. Styles & Daniels won tag team of the year.
Joe vs. Angle was feud of the year. The Ultimate X match at No Surrender won
match of the year. I barely remember that. Christy Hemme won Knockout of the
year. Eric Young was most inspirational. The Kurt Angle Big Announcement was
moment of the year. Samoa Joe was Mr. X Division. The Canadian Destroyer was the
finisher of the year. Kurt Angle is Who's to Watch in 2007.
Tenay was with Cornette in the ring to hand over the world's skinniest trophy to
Samoa Joe as Mr. TNA in 2006. Cornette said he made a decision that the NWA
Title would be defended at the PPV in a three-way elimination match between
Abyss, Christian, and Sting. Tenay then introduced the five nominees for Mr. TNA
in 2006. They showed A.J. Styles and Kurt Angle backstage in their lockers
watching. They showed a clip of Jeff Jarrett's ring entrance, then the locker
room door of Sting. They cut to Samoa Joe on crutches backstage with a random
woman. Joe didn't show much reaction when he was announced as the winner. He
winked at the camera, then walked out on stage. They showed clips of Joe's wars
with Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, and Kurt Angle. Joe was suddenly in the ring.
Boy, that's pretty fast walking to the ring for someone on crutches. Joe took
the mic and said it's a tremendous honor. He said Angle has come and gone and
tonight he is Mr. TNA. Suddenly, Angle showed up on the entrance ramp dragging
Joe's girl out onto stage. So now TNA is reintroducing random characters onto
the show, thrusting them into a primary storyline on the show, and expecting
fans to care. Angle threatened to break the woman's ankle if Joe didn't give him
the rematch. Joe told Angle that he doesn't have any balls threatening him from
150 feet away. Angle threatened to snap her ankle, then Joe gave Angle the
rematch. Angle said it wasn't personal, then he paused and said it was personal.
He put her in the anklelock and she screamed out. Angle dropped the hold, then
Joe hobbled up the ramp and threw his crutch in Angle's direction as Angle left.
The woman cried on the stage as Joe hobbled to her aid.
