OFFICIAL TNA “iMPACT” RESULTS
Thursday, April 20, 2006 – Orlando, FL
By: Marcus Cygy

We entered the iMPACT Zone this past Thursday night for the very last time before the all steel cage event this Sunday, “Lockdown” on Pay-Per-View!

Our opening match was presented as a preview for the upcoming World X Cup Tournament. Team Canada’s Petey Williams, Bobby Roode, Eric Young, and A1 were up against Team USA contestants of Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, Jay Lethal, and Alex Shelley. There was the slightest problem heading into this match however. While Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, and Jay Lethal were avidly against Team Canada, Alex Shelley of Team USA was not. Shelley even waved to Team Canada ringside upon entering the ring during Team USA’s entrance. Shelley even shook Eric Young’s hand and tagged a member of Team USA to fight in his place. You can talk about whether Shelley stands strong with Team USA or not, but Alex Shelley has been put to work over the past few weeks by Jeff Jarrett and Scott D’Amore. That eventually led to the official affiliation with Jarrett’s army and Team Canada.

During the match, the fans were rallying in Team USA’s corner as the Canadians went great lengths in keeping offensive control for the majority of the match. Petey Williams sang O’ Canada on Sonjay Dutt hung on the turnbuckle as Alex Shelley refused to tag in and come face to face with his allies. There came a time however when Alex Shelley unluckily found himself in A1’s presence in the middle of the ring. Knowing the importance of this match, A1 knocked Shelley off his feet with several powerhouse moves.

Chris Sabin, who was named the new captain of Team USA by former captain and X pioneer Jerry Lynn, was soaring with innovative moves including a variation of a bulldog DDT in attempts to win this ranking of the powers match to set the tone of the upcoming tournament. That attempt was unfortunately out of the question for Chris Sabin.

A1 finished the match with the Pump Handle Slam on Jay Lethal with assistance from Alex Shelley of all peoples. He blindly hit Lethal across the back near the ropes and that lead to the finish.

From one roller coaster, we go to another this Sunday at “Lockdown” when “The Samoan Submission Machine” defends the X-Division Championship against “The Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal” Sabu for the very first time! Two wrestlers with no limits, it’s the X-Division Championship on the line like you’ve never seen before!

This Sunday we will also see Sting and his team of “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles, “The War Machine” Rhino, and Ron “The Truth” Killings taking on Jeff Jarrett and his allegiance of “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner and the NWA World Tag Team Champions, America’s Most Wanted. On this tonight however, Sting’s team was put forth with a preliminary task of defeating The Diamonds In The Rough.

Simon Diamond along with David Young and Elix Skipper tried all they could to defeat three former NWA World Heavyweight Champions. Ron Killings, a former 2-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion put forth such athletically sounded force against the opposition that seemingly had him dancing around all three Diamonds In The Rough. Simon Diamond at that point had had enough and sent the tags out the window in attempts to end this match one way or another. That didn’t stop the 3-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, AJ Styles from following suite. After going parallel with Ron Killings for a dive to the outside, AJ Styles delivered the pelč kick on “Primetime” Elix Skipper leading to the Axe Kick for the win.

Backstage with Jeremy Borash was Larry Zbyszko for an interview. Larry seemed cautious when talking as he avoided any questions from Borash and began pushing his lineup he had for Lockdown. If Borash couldn’t bring the rumors to the forefront then referee Mark “Slick” Johnson could. He emerged onto the scene straight from the TNA offices with an envelope. He handed it over to Larry and informed him about current rumors relating to Raven, a former wrestler of TNA that was fired back in January at Final Resolution with a major help in hand of Larry Zbyszko. Johnson also stated that there would be a clean slate here soon because there’s a new man from management coming in.

We then heard from the weary Christian Cage who has been mentally and physically attacked over the course of the past few weeks in good thanks to James Mitchell and “The Monster” Abyss – the number one contender for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. James Mitchell has guaranteed victory for his weapon of mass destruction to walk out of the Six Sides of Steel at Lockdown with the NWA World Title firmly in his grip. However, by the sounds of Christian Cage, no one can deny that he has a fair chance in this match as well. He stated that he could see the fear in Abyss; he can see it in his eyes. No other wrestler as matter of fact has been able to seek out such an emotion from Abyss before. With Christian Cage and Abyss nearing time to wage war inside the Six Sides of Steel, you are sure to see one of the crudest sides of Christian like never before. Abyss and James Mitchell have made this more than personal by attacking his wife. As a matter of fact, Abyss did not fail to attack Christian in the ring with his steel chain this week as he has week after week.

Ultimately, the man who walks out of Lockdown as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion will not be the man who has exerted the most punishment, but rather the man that can keeping coming back from the punch and standing up to the physical adversity.

Our main event this week featured Jeff Jarrett & America’s Most Wanted against the reunited Team 3D family of Brother Ray, Brother Devon, and the runt of the linear, Brother Runt!

Brother Runt tasted the force of Planet Jarrett early on by being thrown into the turnbuckles several times with great velocity. Jarrett was quick to lose his momentum however as the adrenaline was high in favor for Brother Runt in his TNA match debut. He even sent Jarrett down from the top rope, and from there he jumped high into the air and stomped Jarrett square across the chest. Jarrett and his army quickly retreated to the outside but in the iMPACT Zone, there is no safe haven! Brother Ray picked his runty brother up and sent him flying out of the ring en taking Planet Jarrett off it’s axis! Things would not look any brighter for Planet Jarrett from the name of fairness. What did look bright for Jarrett and his army though was the name of cheating. The odds were stacked against Team 3D with Team Canada ultimately getting their chance to humiliating Team 3D before their Anthem Match at Lockdown. This allocated Jarrett to hit The Stroke on Brother Runt for the win.

After the match, all hell had broken loose. Sting’s team was now down at the ring as was Abyss. He was ready to choke slam “The War Machine” Rhino, but the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Christian Cage had seen enough of Abyss’ demolition in the ring and came down to get his share of physical torment on Abyss. The two brawled to the outside.

After Abyss, Rhino was then met with “The Genetic Freak” Scott Steiner. Steiner had his way and delivered a belly-to-belly suplex on Rhino before Sting could come down and make the save. Nonetheless, Sting did make it down to the ring but the damage exerted on his team had already been done.

Will Team Sting rebound against Jarrett’s army this Sunday when they all step foot inside the Lethal Lockdown structure on April 23?

It’s the second annual all-steel-cage event, TNA “Lockdown” this Sunday and it’s live and exclusively on Pay-Per-View!
