TNA FINAL RESOLUTION 2005
Universal Studios Orlando
Orlando, Florida
January 16, 2005
Leave it to TNA to bring in the New Year with a bang!
There were so many great matches and unforgettable moments from tonight’s pay
per view that it leaves you begging for more. Just when you think nothing could
top last month’s Turning Point PPV, the TNA wrestlers gave us another memorable
night by putting everything they had into making sure the fans get their money’s
worth. Now let’s get down to business.
The Naturals vs. Johnny B. Badd and Sonny Siaki
The night kicked off with former NWA World Tag Team Champions, The Naturals
taking on the team of Johnny B. Badd and the “Ace in the Hole” Sonny Siaki.
Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas took the early offensive in the match and went
right to work on Sonny Siaki. After being double teamed for most of the early
going, Siaki finally made his way over to his corner to tag in Badd. Chase
Stevens rolled a piece of chain around his fist and was ready to deliver a
viscous shot to the head of Johnny B. Badd, but before he landed, Siaki pushed
his teammate out of the way and took the blow to the head instead. Stevens then
rolled up the motionless Siaki for the 3 count and got the victory for the
Naturals
Winner: The Naturals
Chris Candido vs. Cassidy Riley
In the second match of the night, Chris Candido made his TNA PPV debut against
Cassidy Riley. Although, Riley looks quite impressive, the veteran Candido was
just too much for the youngster. To showcase his power, Candido lifted Riley
above his head for a suplex and just left him hanging there for what seemed like
eternity. He followed this move up with a superplex off the top ropes and
finally ended it with a diving head butt to Riley’s forehead.
Winner Chris Candido
“The Franchise” Shane Douglas was then shown making his way to NWA World
Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett’s room. He then got Jarrett to comment on his
match later in the evening. Jarrett had plenty to say, asking DDP what he really
brings to the table. He followed up by saying that Monty Brown is a AA
ballplayer at best and Nash flat on his back is 12 inches at best. Needless to
say, Jeff Jarrett was confident that he could beat any one of the competitors in
the 3 way match.
Kazarian, Michael Shane, and Christopher Daniels vs. The 3 Live Kru
In typical 3LK fashion, BG James and Konnan got the party started on the mic.
After their always entertaining introductions, it was time to get serious
because they had a tough task at hand, taking on 3 former X Division Champions.
The 3 Live Kru got the early start and started taking it to Michael Shane in the
beginning of the match. The “Truth” Ron Killings, Konnan, and BG James had the
experience edge going into this match up having been working together for quite
a while now in TNA. Sure, Shane and Kazarian also work well together as we have
seen in the past, but the question was whether or not Daniels could fill in that
3rd spot in his debut as a singles wrestler in TNA.
The Kru just went out there and started having fun while at the same time doing
the damn thing! Daniels, Shane, and Kazarian started to mount a comeback and
after bodies flying everywhere, we were left with all 6 athletes completely
wiped out, lying on the canvas floor. The end came when K-Dawg and James lifted
Shane above their head while Killings came high above with a kick that nearly
decapitated him. The Truth then covered Shane for the victory.
Winner: 3 Live Kru
Primetime vs. Sonjay Dutt
Just like Christopher Daniels did right before him, “Primetime” Elix Skipper
made his PPV singles debut since the breakup of Triple X last month. His
opponent was the Original Playa from the Himalaya, Sonjay Dutt. The winner of
this match would take a huge step towards competing for the X Title. The action
spilled over and into the crowd early on. What made this match so intense was
the high flying and risky X Division style moves that took place. As we
witnessed at last month’s Turning Point, Primetime has no problem with putting
his body on the line to win a match and neither was Dutt. The TNA chants filled
the arena all throughout the encounter. Skipper went for the Play of the Day
early on Dutt, but he countered the move. However, Dutt was unable to get his
signature Hindu Press off on Primetime twice in the match. The second of these
counter reactions was a dropkick to Dutt that gave Primetime the victory.
Winner: “Primetime” Elix Skipper
Cameras shifted to the back where Nash was trying to talk DDP into working with
him to eliminate Monty Brown from their match later in the night. DDP wasn’t too
convinced Nash was telling the truth due to their history and he questioned Big
Sexy. “Trust in Kevin Nash?”
Kid Kash vs. Dustin Rhodes
In another TNA PPV debut, Dustin Rhodes was ready to settle his beef with the
arrogant Kid Kash. Once again, Kash’s mouth got him into trouble as he had a few
choice words for Rhodes when he came into TNA. Although he might not be loved by
many, Kid Kash is one of TNA’s best and Rhodes was in for a good fight. Early on
in the match Kash faked a knee injury and took Rhodes by surprise, knocking the
Texan to the ground. He then began to legitimately work on Rhodes knee. After
working on the injured knee of Dustin throughout the match, Rhodes was able to
hit a bulldog for the victory.
Winner: Dustin Rhodes
Raven vs. Erik Watts
It was now time for things to get ugly at New Year’s Resolution. Erik Watts was
out to get a little revenge on Raven for his actions in the weeks preceding.
Watts came to the ring with a chair. Neither individual had any regard for the
other’s well being. Before Watt’s could get a shot in with the chair, the
referee pulled the steel away. Raven then took a cheap shot downstairs on the
big man to get him off his feet. Eventually Watts was able to get the decisive
victory with a chokeslam on Raven for the 1 2 3. After the match Raven go the
microphone and stopped Watts from leaving saying that he let his hatred for DDP
blind him and that he was sorry. Watts waited around only to be ambushed by
Raven and thrown off the ramp through a table below. Raven, with all his mind
tricks, got the last laugh.
Winner: Erik Watts
Scott Hall vs. Jeff Hardy (with special guest referee: Rowdy Roddy Piper)
Once the bagpipes hit the sound system, you knew it was time for the Rowdy
Scotsman to make his way to the ring. Rowdy Roddy Piper was in the house to make
sure this next match was called down the line. Before the match begun, Piper
searched each wrestler for any weapons they might be concealing. Scott Hall was
far from clean as Piper pulled out a ton of weapons and foreign objects that
Hall was hiding underneath his gear, including a fork and a chain.
Scott Hall may have got a little revenge for this during the match as he pushed
Hardy into Piper sending the special guest referee to the canvas floor. Hall
then headed to one of the corner turnbuckles and pulled out some brass knuckles
which he was about to use on an unsuspecting Jeff Hardy until Piper stopped him
and poked him in the eyes. Hardy quickly took advantage of this and hit the
Twist of Fate on the momentarily blind Hall. He then his the Swanton Bomb for
the victory. After the match was through, Hardy took the microphone and told
everyone that he was going to start kicking some a$$ around here and that it
will start with the King of the Mountain himself, Jeff Jarrett. Just then, Abyss
came out of nowhere and gave Jeff Hardy a torture rack drop which left him lying
in the middle of the ring.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
“The Alpha Male” Monty Brown vs. Diamond Dallas Page vs. Kevin Nash
Just like they had talked about earlier in the evening, both Page and Nash went
to work on the Alpha Male. Neither took a shot at each other, but instead double
teamed the former New England Patriot Linebacker. They backed Brown into a
corner in which DDP took the opportunity to throw Kevin Nash over the top rope,
thus eliminating the big man from the match. Nash couldn’t believe what happened
and was furious. Page then hit the Diamond Cutter on Brown, but was unable to
pin him as Nash pulled him out of the ring to extract a little revenge for what
just happened.
Now that the double team was over, Brown was able to regain his senses and get
back in the match. Brown was able to hit his destructive “Pounce” on DDP and got
the victory, thus entitling him to a match for the NWA World Heavyweight Title
later in the night against Jeff Jarrett. In a good display of sportsmanship,
both Page and Brown shook hands.
Winner: Monty Brown
America’s Most Wanted vs. Team Canada (World Tag Team Title Match)
Tennessee Cowboy James Storm and Wildcat Chris Harris are no strangers to the
NWA Tag Team Championship going into this match up with Team Canada. While Team
Canada may be the hottest thing going in TNA today, AMW had their sights set on
becoming 6-time NWA World Tag Team Champions. Things got crazy quick in this
match. A fight between the two teams broke out all over the arena. They fought
to the top of the ramp and right in front of Don West and Mike Tenay at the
announcer’s table. Some order was finally restored and it ended up being Harris
and “Showtime” Eric Young to start the match. Young was competing with a huge
knot on his head that he suffered in the brawl previous to the start of the
encounter.
It was all AMW in the beginning as they exposed the injured Young. TNA chants
again filled the arena as the fans were witness to some of the best wrestling
they have ever seen. Team Canada quickly got back into it. As always, Scott
D’Amore wanted to become involved in the match, but AMW cut the leader of Team
Canada off and handcuffed him to the ring post. Now that D’Amore became a
non-factor, it looked like AMW had the edge. That is until Johnny Devine came
down to ringside. He got into the ring with a hockey stick which he broke in
half over the back of James Storm. He quickly shoved Young on top for the pin,
but Storm kicked out!
Having found Devine, Chris Harris drilled him with a viscous spine buster. Chaos
ensued as no one knew who the legal man was. There were many near pin falls, but
the match would not end. Divine made a costly error at the conclusion of the
match as he hit his partner Erik Young in the skull with a steel chair, thinking
that it was Harris or Storm. America’s Most Wanted then became the champions for
the 6th time.
Winner: AMW
A.J. Styles vs. Chris Sabin vs. Petey Williams (X Division Championship Match)
Ultimate X Match
Scott D’Amore was out yet again tonight in hopes that Team Canada would hang on
to at least one title. Early on in the match while Sabin was attempting to grab
the title from above, D’Amore pulled him to the ground. After seeing this, the
referee sent D’Amore packing and told him to head to the back. What followed
D’Amore's departure was some of the most awesome matches I have been witness to.
There were some SICK moves that literally you will have to see to believe. While
making his way to the center of the X, Petey Williams hit a hurricanrana on
Sabin who was on A.J.’s back! In another amazing moment, Styles slinged off the
top rope and punched Petey Williams in the jaw sending him crashing to the ring
below.
In another outstanding move, Chris Sabin jumped off the top rope to knock Styles
into a spin and onto the canvas below. Petey Williams went to work on the
injured Styles and rammed his forearm into one of the 4 metal posts on the
corners of the ring. Styles even had a shot to win the title, but couldn’t hold
himself up on the X above with his bad arm. Petey then hit the most famous and
talked about move in wrestling today, The Canadian Destroyer, on A.J. Styles.
Both Sabin and Williams pulled their way toward the title hanging above and
while hanging with their feet holding them above, started playing tug a war with
the belt. Then came the move of the night, when A.J. Styles used his athletic
ability to jump off the top rope towards his two opponents, snagging the belt
with one hand and into the ring for the victory. Again, words cannot describe a
match like this. You have to see it to believe it.
Winner: A.J. Styles
Jeff Jarrett vs. Monty Brown (NWA World Heavyweight Title Match)
Before this match even began, security and TNA officials had to hold the two
competitors away from each other. Jeff Jarrett was very cocky at the start of
the match, but managed to take control early on. No one knew if Monty Brown was
winded from his first match of the night. Monty Brown was able to use his power
advantage to get back into it. Jarrett countered by using his experience and his
head to find an edge. The fight then went into the crowd where chairs became
involved. The action then spilled over the announcers table almost sending West
and Tenay to the floor.
Monty Brown was able to counter an early Stroke by Jarrett and pushed the champ
into the referee, knocking him out cold. Jarrett used the opportunity to pull
out his guitar and crush it over the Alpha Male’s head. He then went for the
easy cover, but Brown somehow kicked out. Jarrett then used every weapon he
could to his advantage, including a steel chair and the title belt. Brown kept
kicking out and getting up. He then seemed to get his second wind.
Monty went for the “Pounce” but Jarrett got out of the way and the referee was
the unlucky victim again. With the referee down again, Jarrett went for another
guitar shot, but Monty got a chokeslam on the King of the Mountain and picked up
the musical instrument for himself. He then took the guitar and smashed it over
the champ’s head. Another referee flew into the ring for the count. 1…2… but
Jarrett kicked out at the last second. After regaining his senses, Jarrett
followed this up by hitting not one, not two, but 3 Strokes on Brown, thus
giving him the pin and victory to remain the NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Winner: Jeff Jarrett
