Nikita Koloff won the best of seven matches 4-3 over Magnum TA during the Great American Bash tour. On September 28, 1986, Koloff defeated Wahoo McDaniels to unify the NWA Heavyweight Title.

• Barry Windham--May 13, 1988 in Houston, Texas. Dusty Rhodes was stripped of the title for attacking Jim Crockett. Windham won a tournament by defeating Nikita Koloff.

• Lex Luger [4]--December 16, 1990 in St. Louis, Missouri. In January of 1991, the title is recognized as the WCW US Heavyweight Title.
• Sting--August 25, 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia. Luger vacated the title in January of 1991 after winning the WCW Heavyweight Title. Sting won a tournament by defeating Steve Austin.
• Rick Rude--November 19, 1991 in Savannah, Georgia.
• Dustin Rhodes--January 11, 1993 in Atlanta, Georgia. Rick Rude vacated the title in December due to a back injury. Dustin Rhodes won by defeating Ricky Steamboat in a tournament.
• Dustin Rhodes [2]--August 30, 1993 in Atlanta, Georgia. The US title was held up when the match between Rick Rude and Dustin Rhodes wrestled to a double pinfall. A series of matches resulted in no winner of the title, including a 30 minute iron man match. Dustin won a best of three series 2-1 over Rude to win the title.
• Steve Austin--December 27, 1993 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He won a two out of three falls match at Starrcade.
• Ricky Steamboat [4]--August 24, 1994 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
• Steve Austin [2]--September 18, 1994 in Roanoke, Virginia. Ricky Steamboat forfeited the title to Austin due to a back injury. 
• Hacksaw Jim Duggan--September 18, 1994 in Roanoke, Virginia. Austin was forced to honor the contract and he lost to Duggan.
• Big Van Vader--December 27, 1994 in Nashville, Tennessee. The match took place at Starrcade. 
• Sting [2]--June 18, 1995 in Dayton, Ohio. Vader was stripped of the title on March 25, 1995 by Comissioner Nick Bockwinkle. Sting won a tournament by defeating Meng.
• Kensuke Sasake--November 13, 1995 in Tokyo, Japan.
• One Man Gang--December 27, 1995 in Nashville, Tennessee. The One Man Gang won by a fictitious pinfall. Kensuke Sasaki won the match. However, only the fictitious pinfall was aired several weeks later.

• Ric Flair [6]--July 7, 1995 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The match took place at Bash at the Beach. 
• Eddie Guerrero--November 29, 1996 in Nashville, Tennessee. Flair vacated the title due to a torn ACL suffered in a match with Kensuke Sasaki in November. Guerrero defeated Diamond Dallas Page in a tournament to win the title.

• Bret Hart--July 20, 1998 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Goldberg lost the title when he became WCW/nWo Heavyweight Champion. Hart wrestled Diamond Dallas Page to win the title.

• Scott Steiner--April 11, 1999 in Tacoma, Washington. Steiner won a tournament by defeating Booker T at Spring Stampede.
• David Flair--July 5, 1999 in Atlanta, Georgia. The title was awarded to him by his father, President Ric Flair, because Steiner's women kept him from wrestling. 
• Chris Benoit--August 9, 1999 in Boise, Idaho. The match took place on Nitro.
• Sid Vicious--September 12, 1999 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The match took place at Fall Brawl.
• Goldberg [2]--October 24, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The match took place at Halloween Havoc.
• Bret Hart [4]--October 25, 1999 in Phoenix, Arizona. The match took place on Nitro.
• On November 1, 1999, Bret Hart vacated the title and attempted to return the belt to Goldberg. After watching a tape of his match, Hart realized the match had interference. Before being able to return the belt to Goldberg, Hart was attacked by Sid Vicious and the Outsiders - Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. Sid Vicious stole the belt but is not acknowledged as the champion. On the same night, Hall defeated Vicious and took the belt from him.
• Scott Hall [2]--November 8, 1999 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The match was a Four Way Dance Ladder Match at Nitro: Hall vs. Sid Vicious vs. Goldberg vs. Bret Hart. 
• Chris Benoit [2]--December 19, 1999 in Washington, DC. The title was forfeited to Benoit from Hall at Starrcade due to a knee injury.
• Jeff Jarrett [2]--December 20, 1999 in Baltimore, Maryland. The match was a ladder match at Nitro.
• TITLE VACANT--January 16, 2000 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Due to Jeff Jarrett's injury from Nitro, the title was taken away from him when he couldn't compete at Souled Out.
• Jeff Jarrett [3]--January 17, 2000 in Columbus, Ohio. Commissioner Kevin Nash gave Jarrett back his title on Nitro.
• TITLE VACANT--April 10, 2000 in Denver, Colorado. The title was vacated on Nitro.
• Scott Steiner [2]--April 16, 2000 in Chicago, Illinois. He defeated Sting in a tournament at Spring Stampede.
• TITLE VACANT--July 9, 2000 in Daytona Beach Florida. The Cat said that if Steiner used the Steiner Recliner, he could take away the title; he did.
• Lance Storm--July 18, 2000 in Auburn Hills, Michigan. He defeated Mike Awesome in a final match of a single-night tournament on Tuesday Nitro.

• General Rection--October 29, 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Rection wrestled Lance Storm and Jim Duggan in a handicap match at Halloween Havoc.
